The Project

Mr and Mrs Fielder approached us to upgrade the driveway at their home in Croydon. Their old surface had become uneven and worn over time, making it difficult to maintain and detracting from the appearance of the property. They wanted a modern, low-maintenance driveway that would look stylish, perform well in all weather conditions, and provide a durable finish for everyday use.

Our Recommendation

After a detailed site inspection, we recommended installing a resin bound driveway. Resin bound systems are extremely popular due to their smooth, permeable finish and impressive durability. The material allows water to drain through the surface, helping to prevent puddles and surface water build-up, while the wide range of colours available means homeowners can achieve a bespoke look that complements their property perfectly.

To define the edges and add contrast, we suggested incorporating a granite border. Granite provides a timeless, high-quality appearance and ensures the driveway edges remain strong and secure over time. As with all our installations, we advised laying a solid MOT Type 1 sub-base to guarantee long-term stability and excellent load-bearing performance.

The Installation

Our team began by excavating the existing surface and preparing the ground for the new driveway. We then supplied and installed a high-quality Type 1 hardcore base, which was carefully levelled and machine-compacted to create a solid foundation.

Next, we installed the granite border, setting each stone precisely to form a neat and defined edge around the driveway. This added both strength and visual appeal to the design.

Once the borders were complete, we laid an open-texture base layer to ensure the surface remained fully permeable and compliant with SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) regulations. The final stage involved mixing and laying the UV-stable resin bound gravel. This specialist mixture was evenly spread and smoothed by hand to create a seamless, hard-wearing finish.

After the resin had fully cured, we carried out a final inspection, ensuring every detail met our exacting standards before leaving the site clean and tidy.

The Result

In just four days, Mr and Mrs Fielder’s property in Croydon was transformed with a stunning new resin bound driveway. The smooth, modern finish has dramatically improved the look of their home, while the granite edging adds a sophisticated touch that frames the area beautifully.
