The Project

Mrs Johnston contacted us to create a new driveway at her property in Croydon. Her existing surface was outdated and no longer complemented the style of her home. She wanted something modern yet timeless, combining natural beauty with long-lasting durability. A driveway that would not only look impressive but also remain practical and low-maintenance for years to come.

Our Recommendation

After surveying the area, we recommended an Indian Sandstone driveway for its natural elegance and resilience. To give the installation a defined and contemporary edge, we suggested finishing it with a sleek charcoal block border.

For a truly unique touch, we advised incorporating a resin feature into the centre of the driveway. Resin is highly durable, slip-resistant, and low-maintenance, while also offering endless design possibilities. The combination of sandstone paving and resin detailing would ensure a driveway that was both eye-catching and practical.

As with all our installations, we also recommended a full excavation of the old surface, the installation of a robust MOT Type 1 sub-base, and accurate preparation of levels and falls to ensure effective water run-off and long-term stability.

The Installation

Our team began by carefully excavating the existing surface to the correct depth, removing all waste materials and preparing the ground for the new driveway. A strong Type 1 MOT hardcore sub-base was then supplied, laid, and compacted in layers, forming a solid foundation for the sandstone paving and resin feature.

Next, we installed a sharp sand bed, compacted and levelled, ready for the Indian Sandstone. Each slab was laid precisely in the chosen pattern, with the charcoal block border added to provide a smart and striking frame around the driveway.

The central resin feature was then poured and finished, creating a bold focal point that truly set the driveway apart. The resin was carefully smoothed and cured, ensuring a seamless and durable finish that would withstand daily use.

Once the paving and resin were complete, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints, and all edges were secured for added strength. The area was then fully cleaned down, with all waste materials removed from the site.

The Result

The finished driveway is a stunning transformation for Mrs Johnston’s property in Croydon. The natural beauty of the Indian Sandstone, paired with the clean lines of the charcoal border, gives a timeless and sophisticated look. The bespoke resin feature adds a modern flair, making the design both unique and memorable.
