The Project

Mr Robinson required a complete transformation of his existing driveway in Sydenham. The old surface had become tired and uneven, with tree roots causing issues and poor drainage leading to water pooling during heavy rainfall. He wanted a durable and low-maintenance block paved driveway that would look smart and improve the overall appearance of the property.

Our Recommendation

After assessing the site, we recommended a full excavation of the existing driveway and removal of the surrounding trees and roots to prevent future disruption. To address the drainage concerns, we advised installing a new ACO drain system at the entrance, connected to a suitable soakaway. Once the groundworks were complete, a strong MOT Type 1 sub-base would be laid, followed by high-quality block paving in a colour and pattern chosen to complement the property.

The Installation

The installation began with excavation of the existing driveway to the correct depth, removing all waste and preparing the ground. Our team carefully removed the trees and ensured that all stumps and roots were ground out to prevent regrowth. A new drainage system was then supplied and installed across the entrance, fully connected for efficient water management.

We laid and compacted a Type 1 MOT hardcore foundation in layers, achieving the correct levels and falls for drainage. On top of this, sharp sand was applied and compacted ready for the block paving. The chosen blocks were laid in the agreed design and colour, with neat cutting around the edges for a precise finish. The paving was then compacted and jointed with kiln-dried sand, and edge restraints installed where required.

Finally, the site was cleaned down and all waste materials removed, leaving a tidy finish.

The Result

The new block paved driveway has transformed the front of Mr Robinson’s home. The smart design and precise finish provide an attractive, low-maintenance entrance, while the new drainage system ensures the area remains dry and practical all year round. Completed in just two days, the project has delivered a long-lasting improvement that will enhance both the appearance of the property for many years to come.
