The Project

Mr and Mrs Clarke contacted us to upgrade their existing driveway in Chislehurst. The old surface had begun to show signs of wear, with uneven ground and poor drainage making it both impractical and unattractive. They wanted a smart and durable block-paved driveway that would improve the property’s kerb appeal while also being low-maintenance and practical for everyday use.

Our Recommendation

Following our assessment of the site, we recommended a full excavation of the existing driveway to create a strong foundation for the new paving. To resolve the drainage issues, we advised fitting a new ACO drainage system across the entrance, connected to a suitable soakaway, ensuring effective water management.

We also suggested installing a robust MOT Type 1 hardcore sub-base, laid and compacted in layers, before preparing a sharp sand bed ready for the block paving. The clients chose a block paving design, colour, and pattern that would complement the style of their property, providing both durability and an attractive finish.

The Installation

The project began with the excavation of the existing driveway, carefully digging out to the correct depth and removing all waste materials. The ground was then prepared, ensuring the area was clear of debris and level for the new installation.

Next, our team installed the ACO drain system across the entrance, fully connected to a soakaway for efficient drainage. This ensured that future rainfall would be effectively managed, preventing pooling and protecting the new driveway surface.

We then supplied and laid a Type 1 MOT hardcore sub-base, compacted in layers to create a solid foundation. Levels and falls were set accurately to encourage water flow into the drainage system. A sharp sand bed was applied and compacted, ready for the block paving installation.

The chosen block paving was then laid in the agreed design and colour. Our team cut and fitted the edges neatly to achieve a precise and professional finish. The paving was compacted, jointed with kiln-dried sand, and edge restraints were installed where required for strength and stability.

Finally, the entire site was cleaned down, all waste was removed, and the driveway was left tidy and ready for immediate use.

The Result

The new block-paved driveway has transformed the appearance of Mr and Mrs Clarke’s home in Chislehurst. With its smart design and clean finish, it not only enhances the overall kerb appeal but also provides a strong, practical, and low-maintenance entrance to their property. The addition of a reliable drainage system means the driveway will remain safe and functional throughout the year. Completed in just three days, the project has delivered a lasting improvement that the homeowners can enjoy for many years to come.
