The Project

Mr and Mrs Row contacted us to improve the front of their property in West Wickham. Their existing driveway was in need of attention, with poor drainage and uneven areas causing surface water build-up after heavy rain. They wanted a durable, well-drained, and attractive driveway solution that would enhance both the look and practicality of their home.

Our Recommendation

After a detailed site inspection, we recommended a block paved driveway with concrete edging, ACO drainage channels, and a new soakaway system. This combination would not only provide a neat and stylish finish but also resolve the existing water management issues.

Block paving is a versatile and durable surface choice that allows for easy maintenance and repair, while concrete edging helps to define the area and ensure the blocks remain securely in place. The ACO drains and soakaway would efficiently manage rainwater runoff, directing it safely away from the property and helping to prevent any standing water or flooding.

The Installation

The project began with a full excavation of the existing surface and the responsible removal of waste materials. We then prepared and compacted a Type 1 MOT hardcore sub-base to create a strong and level foundation.

Next, we installed the soakaway system, designed to collect and disperse surface water naturally into the ground. ACO drainage channels were then fitted along key areas of the driveway to direct water flow towards the soakaway, ensuring the entire system worked efficiently.

Once the drainage was complete, we set concrete edges to frame the new driveway neatly before laying the block paving in the chosen pattern. Each block was carefully positioned and compacted to achieve a smooth, even finish. Finally, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints and the entire surface was cleaned and tidied.

The Result

In just two days, Mr and Mrs Row’s driveway in West Wickham was completely transformed. The new block paved surface now provides a strong, attractive, and easy-to-maintain entrance to their home, while the ACO drains and soakaway ensure effective water management all year round.

The addition of concrete edging gives the driveway a crisp, professional finish, and the overall result combines both style and practicality. Mr and Mrs Row were delighted with the transformation and impressed with how efficiently the project was completed.
