The Project
Mr and Mrs Lawler contacted us to upgrade the front of their property in West Wickham. Their existing driveway was no longer performing as it should, with signs of wear and poor drainage causing surface water to collect. They wanted a practical and attractive solution that would improve both the appearance and functionality of their driveway, along with better boundary definition.
Our Recommendation
After carrying out a detailed site survey, we recommended installing a block paved driveway combined with a new fence and an improved drainage system. Block paving offers a durable and visually appealing finish, making it an ideal choice for everyday use while allowing for easy maintenance.
To resolve the drainage issues, we advised incorporating a suitable system to effectively manage water runoff and prevent future pooling. The addition of new fencing would enhance privacy and create a clean, well-defined boundary to complete the overall look.
As with all our projects, we specified a full excavation and installation of a Type 1 MOT hardcore sub-base, compacted in layers to ensure long-term strength and stability.
The Installation
The project began with the removal of the existing driveway and preparation of the ground. A Type 1 MOT sub-base was then installed and machine-compacted to create a solid and level foundation.
Next, the drainage system was installed in key areas to direct water away from the driveway efficiently. Once this was in place, a sharp sand bedding layer was applied and levelled with precision before laying the block paving in the chosen pattern. Each block was carefully positioned to achieve a uniform and attractive finish.
Alongside the driveway works, we installed the new fencing, ensuring it was secure, straight, and aligned to provide a neat boundary. The surface was then compacted, joints were filled with kiln-dried sand, and the site was thoroughly cleaned.
The Result
In just two days, the front of Mr and Mrs Lawler’s property in West Wickham was transformed. The new block paved driveway provides a strong, stylish, and low-maintenance surface, while the improved drainage system ensures effective water management all year round.
The addition of the new fence completes the project, offering enhanced privacy and a clean, well-defined finish. Mr and Mrs Lawler were delighted with the outcome, which has significantly improved both the practicality and kerb appeal of their home.
