Client: Mrs Everett
Location: Bromley
Timescale: 2 Days
Service Provided: Driveway Block Paving and New Wall
The Project
Mrs Everett contacted us regarding her property in Bromley, where the existing driveway had become worn and impractical. She wanted a fresh, functional, and attractive front space that would improve the property’s kerb appeal, ensure proper drainage, and create a welcoming entrance.
In addition to a new driveway surface, Mrs Everett also requested the construction of a new boundary wall to complement the style of her home.
Our Recommendation
Following a site inspection, we recommended a complete excavation of the old driveway, including removal of all existing materials and preparation of the sub-base for a robust block paving installation.
To enhance the appearance and security of the property, we suggested building a new wall using reclaimed/old stock bricks, topped with coping stones for both a neat finish and protection from the weather. This would be paired with a modern block-paved driveway in the chosen pattern and colour, supported by a proper drainage system to manage surface water effectively.
The Installation
The project was completed over two days.
On day one, we excavated the existing driveway surface to the required depth, disposing of all spoil at a licensed tip. The ground was levelled and compacted before a weed-control membrane was installed. We then laid and compacted MOT Type 1 hardcore in layers, creating a stable and long-lasting foundation.
During this stage, our team also began construction of the new wall, carefully matching reclaimed bricks to the property’s character. Coping stones were fitted to protect against weather damage, and all joints were pointed with a suitable mortar for both strength and appearance.
We also installed an aqua channel drain along the house perimeter, ensuring it connected to the appropriate soakaway or drainage system in compliance with Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) regulations.
On day two, a sharp sand bed was prepared and compacted to the correct screed level. The chosen block paving was then laid in the agreed pattern, with edge restraints added where needed. Once the paving was complete, we compacted the blocks and brushed kiln-dried sand into the joints for a secure, even finish.
The Result
The completed works have completely revitalised the front of Mrs Everett’s property. The new block-paved driveway offers a clean, modern look with a durable surface ready to handle daily use, while the newly built wall provides both an attractive boundary and additional protection.
Mrs Everett was delighted with the result, praising the quality of the workmanship, the attention to detail, and the efficiency of the installation. The combination of stylish paving, effective drainage, and an attractive brick wall has given her home a fresh new look that will stand the test of time.
