The Project

The Taylor Family from West Wickham contacted us with the aim of transforming their back garden into a modern, low-maintenance outdoor space suitable for entertaining and relaxing. A disused swimming pool dominated the area, creating an eyesore and taking up valuable garden space. The surrounding patio was also outdated and uneven, and the lawn had become patchy and tired.

They were looking for a complete garden makeover that would bring style, structure and usability to their outdoor space.

Our Recommendation

After assessing the site and discussing their vision, we proposed a comprehensive 7-day plan to revitalise the garden. The first step would be to safely fill in the disused pool using compacted hardcore to create a stable, level area. From there, we would install a new porcelain tile patio—a smart, modern choice known for its durability, low maintenance, and clean finish.

To complement the hard landscaping, we recommended laying fresh new turf to restore green space and bring balance to the design. This combination would provide the perfect blend of practicality and natural beauty, making the garden a versatile space for both entertaining and everyday enjoyment.

The Installation

We began by preparing the site, with the first major task being the infill of the existing swimming pool. The pool was filled with layers of compacted hardcore, creating a firm foundation for the new patio and lawn.

Next, we turned our attention to the patio area. The base was excavated and levelled, and a solid sub-base of compacted Type 1 hardcore was laid to support the porcelain paving. We then installed large-format porcelain tiles, chosen for their modern finish and excellent resistance to weathering and stains. Each tile was carefully laid with precision cuts and narrow, neat grout lines for a sleek appearance.

With the patio completed, we moved on to preparing the lawn area. The ground was rotovated, levelled, and dressed with quality topsoil. We then rolled out premium-quality turf, ensuring seamless joins and a smooth, even surface. The newly turfed area was watered and compacted to promote healthy root growth and give the lawn the best start.

The Result

After just seven working days, Taylor Family’s garden was completely transformed. The porcelain patio provides a stylish, practical space for outdoor dining and relaxing, while the lush new lawn looks stunning.

The former swimming pool area is now a safe, stable part of the garden, seamlessly incorporated into the overall design. The clients were thrilled with the transformation and commented on the professionalism and attention to detail throughout the project.
